About SmartLedger
Built for organisations that answer to donors, boards and communities
SmartLedger began with a simple problem: nonprofit finance teams in Uganda were keeping donor money, grant budgets and payroll in spreadsheets and business accounting packages that were never designed for restricted funds or donor reports.
What we believe
The accountant stays in control
SmartLedger prepares, checks and suggests; a person reviews and posts. Nothing is posted to the books silently.
Donor money is kept apart
Restricted funds are tracked from the moment money arrives to the report that shows how it was used.
Reports come from the books
Statements and donor reports are built from posted transactions, so the figures agree everywhere.
Your data is yours
Each organisation's records are kept separate, can be exported at any time and are not deleted if you stop paying.
Made in Uganda, for East Africa
SmartLedger is developed in Uganda. It speaks the language of local finance teams: UGX and USD side by side, URA PAYE returns and NSSF schedules, Local Service Tax, mobile money accounts, and reports in the formats international donors ask for.
It is used by organisations of different sizes, from a single church office to networks with branches that keep their own books and consolidate for headquarters.
Honest about what is ready
Everything on our features page is available today. Where something is still on the roadmap, we say so.
